Approx 45 hours on the large jar and 25 hours on the medium, the
lifespan of any candle can be lengthened by following a few simple care
and maintenance instructions (see Care & Maintenance).
We use a number of techniques to give as strong a fragrance throw as
a paraffin based candle. In all Jonathan Ward London candles, we use a pure beeswax,
beeswax not only bonds really well with the fragrance molecules but it
acts as an air purifier, ionizing the air as it is exuded from the jar.
We also use double wicks in some candles, this gives phenomenal
fragrance throw and a superb melt pool.
All Jonathan Ward London fragrances are incredibly dimensional offering dimension and
depth. See “Shop by scent style” for more details.
Obviously spills may happen, our wax is clear and easy to remove. We use a crystal jar with a one inch base that prevents heat transferring to polished surfaces. Even if the candle is burning in the very base of the jar, no heat will spoil surfaces guaranteed.
We suggest using the crystal jar as a great cappuccino glass. It can
also be used a great juice glass. To remove all traces of wax and
prepare for using as a drinking vessel, you should follow the simple
instructions below:
- fill jar with boiling water and washing up liquid
- leave for 5-6 hours
- all wax should solidify and be easily disposed of, then the jar can be washed out as normal and dried.
With Jonathan Ward London candles, the wax base is one hundred
percent pure and burns cleanly and with no impurities. You can burn the
candles for longer than paraffin based candles, but as soon as you start
to see mushrooming on the end of the wick, simply extinguish, clip the
wick and relight. You will see the difference and be able to judge for
yourself how long to burn for.
The wax base is one hundred percent organic and natural. We use
farm grown organic soy wax from the USA (we don’t use soy that has
contributed to deforestation, or is of an inferior yield) which is
consistently creamy and textured, not brittle and firm. We also use
a pure beeswax from the USA, no paraffin products or chemicals are
used in the wax base at all. When blended with the essential oils,
the finished product ends up being between 93% and 97% natural.
We do not use organic essential oils in this product. The yields of
organic essential oils are incredibly inconsistent and price
prohibitive. We do blend the essential oils with some high grade aroma
chemicals. Aroma chemicals are the foundation of modern perfumery. I
asked my perfumer why we couldn’t use all naturals and was surprised at
the answer. I was unaware that a number of natural oils are toxic in 100
percent potency and my perfumer gave me this very apt description
“Jonathan, if you used 100 percent natural oils you could liken this to
an artist being given 10 crayons to create a masterpiece. The fragrances
would lack dimension and be limited in their range.” This is my personal
philosophy, I like to offer incredible fragrances that have a high
degree of natural oils enhanced with fine grade aroma chemicals bound in
a hundred natural organic wax base.
Yes, you can recycle both the glass and packaging. If you don’t wish
to keep the glass then it can be recycled in the normal way. The
packaging is manufactured by a plant that uses green power and is also a
blend of post consumer sources.
